- Outlook 2000 SR1 and Above
- Click Start, and then click Run.
- In the Open box, type regedit.
- Locate the following registry key:
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\9.0\Outlook\Options\Mail
- On the Edit menu, point to New, and then click DWord Value.
- With the new Dword value selected, type ReadAsPlain.
- Double-click the new value to open it. In the Value Data box, type 1, and then click OK.
- Click OK, and then quit Registry Editor.
- Click Start, and then click Run.
- In the Open box, type regedit.
- Locate the following registry key:
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\10.0\Outlook\Options\Mail
- On the Edit menu, point to New, and then click DWord Value.
- With the new Dword value selected, type ReadAsPlain.
- Double-click the new value to open it. In the Value Data box, type 1, and then click OK.
- Click OK, and then quit Registry Editor.
- Within Outlook, click Tools
- Click Options
- Choose the Preferences panel
- Click E-mail Options
- Check Read all standard mail in plain text
- Check Read all digitally signed mail in plain text
- Compose new messages in plain text
- Choose the Mail Format panel
- Select Plain Text in the Compose in this message format listbox
- Outlook Rich Text options
- Choose the Mail Format panel
- Click Internet Format
